Year nine student, Tom Winter, Burnside High School, Christchurch, is the 2010 New Zealand Vegemite Spelling Bee Champion. He won the title by correctly spelling the word, dissonant. Tom will represent New Zealand at the 2010 Scripps Spelling Bee in Washington DC on 3-4 June 2010.
The runner up was Celine Kao from Sacred Heart College, Hamilton. Celine tripped over the word, circuitous. Liam Dennis of Hutt International Boys, Wellington, came third after misspelling the word recidivist.

NEW ZEALAND VEGEMITE SPELLING BEE - 2010

The New Zealand Vegemite Spelling Bee is a spelling competition which is open to all New Zealand Year 9 students. The competition includes five regional competitions and the final. All are held in the first term of the New Zealand school year. The prize for the overall winner is a trip of a lifetime to the USA to represent New Zealand at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington.
