Aotearoa New Zealand Spelling Bee returning in 2023

The Aotearoa New Zealand Spelling Bee is thrilled to announce that it is returning in 2023 bigger and better than before.

The Spelling Bee, like many events was cancelled in 2020 and 2022 because of the pandemic. This year’s event had a delayed start because of the floods, cyclones and national state of emergency in Term 1.

In recognition of this tumultuous time the Sponsor has generously increased its funding so that 24 Finalists from around the motu can participate in the National Spelling Bee Final in Wellington. The number of regional spelling bees is increasing from six to eight.

Further, in recognition of the incredible contribution teachers make the number of Aotearoa New Zealand Spelling Bee Teacher Awards is increasing from four to EIGHT.

We are excited to be back bigger and better than before.
